"NOT A FAIR THING."
MINISTER AWAY FROM PARLIAMENT. SIR JOSEPH WARD'S CRITICISM. (By Wire.—Own Correspondent.) < . Wellington, Last Night/ "Is it a' fair thing that a Minister of the Crown, during the last week of the session, should be absent electioneering and making statements'regarding pttUio men, including myself, that I cannot reply to, because it is my duty to be here in Parliament?" asked Sir Joseph Ward in the House to-day. The allijsion was to the Hon. J. B. Hine. Sir Joseph Ward proceeded to state ■ that lie took exception to the absence -of a Minister on such business during the last week of the session. It was not a fair thing. The Prime Minister wouU not think it a fair thing if the positions ' ware reversed. : . Mr. Massey: I am afraid there have been many such occasions in past years. I can think of several cases where Ministers of the Crown made speeches to their constituents in the last weeks of a session. The Minister referred to vUI be back this evening, and no doubt he will be able to give the honorable mamber a satisfactory explanation. Sir Joseph Ward: That is no answer.
