DAIRY AND MANAGER.
ALLEGED WRONGFUL DISMISSAL. MEREMERE COMPANY CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hawera, Last Night. The heading of the claim against the Meremere Dairy Company was concluded this afternoon, the magistrate giving judgment for the defendant company. [This was a case in which Alfred William Osborne, factory manager, claimed £2OO damages from the Meremere Dairy Company for alleged wrongful dismissal. The factorv closed down :vt the end of May and plaintiff continued as manager until June 11th., when lie was call- , ed before the directors' meeting, and notified that he had been engaged for another season. Plaintiff continued as manager during the off season/ but on July 14th received a letter from the directors stating that they were very dissatisfied with his management, and stipulating new terms and conditions, failing compliance wherewith the engagement would terminate. Plaintiff did not sign the document, and replied with a spirited letter on August 14. The chairman of directors, thereupon, wrote to the plaintiff, handing him a cheque for a month's salary in lieu of notice, also the amount of wages from August 1 to 14.]
