SUPPLY OF TIMBER.

THE OUTPUT INCREASING. t MAIN-TRUNK MILLS' ACTIVITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Marton, October 2". Referring to the Press Association message in the morning papers as to the shortage of timber, a Rangitikei Advocate representative this morning interviewed the chairman of the Rangitikei -Sawmilicrs' Association. who stated that so far as the Main Trunk millers were concerned everything was being done to relieve the shortage. The output of members of the Rangitikei Association last month was nearly four million feet compared with two and a quarter million feet for the same month last year.

So far as the railway was concerned, the Press Association messase was inaccurate, as. the Railway Department was doing all it, possibly could to transport the timber., and a considerable improvement over the normal services was noticeable. In support of this he stated that for the six weeks iminediatelr after the railway cut was removed from August 24 to October fi. the "railways lifted from the Main Trunk mills 1-21. million feet of timber, an increase of approximately four millions on the corresponding period last vor.r. Since October fi the railway figures had further increased, and. it was now lifting approximately a thousand wagons of timber weeklv, totalling about three million feet weeklv. rhe supplv of wacrons was plentiful, and the millet- were taking advantage of it. The manager stated that no building timber was exported from any of the associated mills.
