WOMEN IN PARLIAMENT.

'-APPRECIATION OF THE NEW BILL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, October 23. A large deputation representative of 1 various women's organisations waited on the Prime Minister to-day to congratulate him upon what he had done in regard to the Women's Parliamentary Rights Bill and strengthen his hands if necessary to enable the new Bill to pass through the Legislative Council. Various speakers admitted that Mr. Massey had even gtmt further than he promised last session in his effort on behalf of women. The Prime Minister explained that the Bill to enable women to stand for election for the House of Representatives had been passed safely, but he was not so certain as to what would become of the other measure. He hail done all that was possible in the circumstances. The fact that the Bill was a Government measure might influence members of the Legislative Council to pass it into law. Mr. Massey explained the position of the Legislative Council Act, which makes the Council elective and which it liad been promsied should be placed before Parliament again prior to its, becoming law. Personally he thought the Act would come into effect next, year, though it was just possible it would be amended to allow a proportion of members to be nominated.
