j STEPS TO BRING SETTLEMENT. (By Wire.—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. | A cablegram stating that the. Aus- ! tralian coal miners are disposed to check the export of coal to New Zealand owing to the mining dispute in this country was mentioned in the House by Mr Semple (Wellington South), who suggested ,the Prime Minister should make another effort to bring the parties together with the object of ending the trouble. Mr Semple said he quite understood that Mr Masaev had already made an effort, buu. in view of the trouble extending to Australia, and the serious position arising therefrom, further action seemed desirable.
"I am again in communication with the parties to the dispute," said Mr Massey. "The matter, unfortunately, is of more importance to the great third party—the pebple of New Zealand—than it is to either the miners or the mine-owners. lam doing my best to bring about a satisfactory arrangement."
