It is reported that Malone and King's property situated in Broadway, near the bridge over the Patea River, has been gold to Mr. - Wilson, who already has large interests in the southern portion of the town. < Yesterday, the mothers and wives of soldiers were entertained by the local branch of the W.N.R. at the Town Hall at afternoon tea, and a very pleasant time was spent by the large crowd present. Items were contributed by Misses Maunsell, Black, Moon, D. Fitzgerald, and Phillips and Mesdames Mossey, R. Thompson, Roole, and Maunsell. A delightful afternoon tea was served. Miss Abraham, who has always taken a great interest in these gatherings, was unable to be presen.t. The Stratford Tennis Club is showing Gigns of new life, and a number of new members are being enrolled. The courts In Regan Street ara being put in good order, and to this end a -working bee has been arranged for Thursday afternoon. Mrs. R. H. Kivell, who is leaving for Hawke's Bay after a long residence in Stratford, -was yesterday presented by the W.N.R.. with a handbag. On Friday night Major the Hon. J. B. Hine, Minister for Internal Affairs, will address the Stratford electors in the Town Hall. . Among the subjects to be dealt with are the but.ter equalisation fund, education, repatriation, settlement of soldiers, public j works, immigration, railway service, and? naval proposals. The dress circle is to be reserved for ladies and their escorts. , The unveiling of the roll of honor in the Mangatoki school takes place on Friday next at 2.30 p.m. The settlers, of the district have invited Mr. Robert Masters, chairman of the Taranaki Education Board, to perform the ceremony It was Mr. Wilson, not Mr. McMillan, who erected the shop in Stratford, referred to in yesterday's notes.
