PAYMENT OF OVERTIME. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, October 22. The Public Service Association conference to-day adopted a remit that overtime should be paid for, all time worked in excess of 44> hours per week, at the rate of 2s per hour, provided that when a half holiday or holiday or holidays occur in any week a deduction ofc four hours for each half holiday and eight hours for each holiday shall be made from the number of hours to be worked before overtime is claimed. This shall apply to ruessenbers and niglitwatchmen. Another remit adopted was that all officers over the age of 40 years shall be entitled to three weeks' annual leave, irrespective of. their length of service. Wellington, Last Night. It was resolved further: That this conference disapproves of the total substitution of matriculation for the Public Service senior examination, and that the examination be sat for at the option of a candidate; that all officers who have passed the matriculation examination since the same was substituted for the Public Service senior examination be granted double increment so they may not be at a disadvantage with officers who have passed the Public Service senior examination since that date and have received double increment; that provision be made for taking the matriculation examination in sections; that payment of a lump sum of £ls be made to officers passing the matriculation examination. That the Public Service Commissioner be requested to provide that an application bf any officer for promotion, special leave of absence, transfer, increase of salary, or in respect of any other matter affecting his position in the service, may be made by the applicant himself to the Commissioner through the permanent head of his department; that whenever a confidential report is made on any officer reflecting on his work or-general conduct such report shall be shown to the officer concerned, who shall, if he so desires, be allowed to make a copy thereof or take an extract therefrom.
