A South Russian communique states that the- Tsarikin sector is quiet, owing to the Bolsheviks recuperating after the heavy losses sustained in their unsuccessful attack of the 17th. The Couaeks, continuing their advance westward of the Khoper River, routed a Bolshevik division, taking 6XIOO prisoners, with 27 guns A column, consisting of 10,000 Letts and Chinese, attacking westward of Orel, was enveloped, half surrounded, and entirely destroyed. following the Bolsheviks' unexpected attack on the 15th, by which they occupied Kieff, General Denikin, with the aid of reinforcements, reoccupied the city, except the western suburbs. The Bolshevik newspapers state that the "Regiment of Jesus," which'is operating against the Bolsheviks on the eastern front, is composed of priests, deacons, and other ecclesiastics clad in robes and , stoles. The regiment attacks carrying uplifted creases and chanting prayers. This has a demoralising effect on the Bed troops, who find no strength to resitt the mystic power. VON DER GOLTZ IN BERLIN. Received Oct. 21, 710 p.m. Copenhagen, Oct 20. Advices from Berlin state that Von der Goltc arrived there on the 19th inßt. He recently telegraphed to General Bermondt congratulating him on his sucesßes at Riga. A semi-official statement says the Government disapproved of tha telegram, and only refrains from proceeding against Von der Goltz because he has resigned from the army.—Reuter.

ATTACKS REPULSED. -ALLIED FLEET SUPPORTS LETTS. Received Oct. 22, 12.30 a.m. I Copenhagen, Oct. 20. t In a message from Riga the Lett Premier announces that a German attack on the Ustdvinsk fortress on Saturday night was repulsed. A GOVERNOR APPOINTED. - HEAVY ARTILLERY DUEL. Received Oct. 22,12.30 a.m. Helsingfors, Oct. 20. The North West Army yesterday occupied Pulkova, ten miles south of Petrograd. General Vladimiroff, who recently escaped from Petrograd, has been appointed Governor-General in anticipation of the fall of the capital. There was a heavy artillery duel yesterday between the fleet and the forties* at Vrasna Jagorka. Afterwards a great fire and explosions were observed, believed to be in Oranienbaum.—Reuter.
