(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Oct. 1!) The school baths are getting an overhaul and general clean-up ready for opening. The committee lias arranged with a caretaker for the season, he running them for the public anil taking all receipts. In the past a grant of £25 has been made, but there has usually been a loss. The meat works are very busy just now. All the chambers have been cleared out of meat, and the lorry is going now shifting manures. The new canning room is up to the second storey, and the men are working early and late at it. The necessary machinery arrived here on Saturday. Dr. Coopers new hospital is nearly finished, and should be opened early next month. The Rawhitiroa people intend holding a welcome home to three returned men shortly, when each man will be presented with a souvenir. There has been a ditlieulty in procuring exactly what was wanted, but that has been overcome, and we may now look forward to a real good night out at the hall. The many friends of Sergeant T). S. McLeod will be pleased to hear of his marriage to Miss F. Simm, which took place at Gore last week. "Donald" is well and favorably known throughout Taranaki. Mr. and Mrs. McLeod will reside at Wanganui on their return, '■Donald" having accepted a position at the tsmaly Freezing Works. The local bowling green was opened on Thursday afternoon, several members playing the first game of the season, v The pipers were out on Saturday night, and held a special meeting on Monday niglit in connection with the proposed trip to New Plymouth on Labor Day. It will pay ladies to visit Eltham to see the window display of lovely spring millinery and summer wear now showing at Shipton's Corner.
