GENERAL RUSSELL HONORED BY MAORIS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Kotormi, Last Night. The Arawa tribe gave a reception to General and Lady and Miss Russell at Ohinemutu on Saturday afternoon. The customary songs, war dances and poi displays were given. The chiefs expressed especially their appreciation of General Russell's consideration for the Maoris at the front. He was presented with a valuable feather mat. GISBORNE OIL FIELD. Gislborne, October 18. A report from Waitangi oil bore states that it is now in oil-bearing formation. The drill struck more gas and a good showing of oil at 720 feet. It is now hard; shell formation at 740 feet. , The indications are promising. The bore is being put down by Messrs. Lynsnar and Clark.
