1 '- TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Oct. IT. Glorious weather prevailed for the opening of the Tennis and Croquet Club yesterday afternoon. The courts were In excellent condition, keen competitions were witnessed, and. a very pleasant nfternoon was indulged In. The Rev. R. .T. Stanton, president, in nn appropriate speech, declared the' courts open. Afternon tea was dlspsnsed by the ladies . The competitions resulted as follows : First Round.—Mrs Hynes and CutfleU (3) bent Miss B. Esse and 0. Hammerton (S), 30— 14| T. Hammerton and Armstrong (1), beat Mrs. Armstrong and E. Hammerton (8), 30—17; Mrs. Partridge and Buckley (3). beat Miss Aula and R. Henderson (8), 30—24; Miss E. Hamerton and Kiloatrick (S), beat Mrs. Paterson and Carmine (owe in). 40—38; Miss V. Lile and Bailey (5), beat Miss Surrey and Partridge (5), 30—28; Miss Riordan andDlgby (scr.), beat Miss P. Nutting and G. Hamerton (3), 30—22; Mrs. Armstrong and Wagstaff (scr.), a bye. Second Round— T. Hamerton and Armstrong heat.
