MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
ECHO OF WAIBAU VALLEY TRAGEDY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Last Night. Charles Albert Sasse appeared to-day • at the Magistrate's Court to answer a charge of manslaughter arising out of the death of George O'Leary in the Wairau Valley Hotel last Saturday evening. The evidence given was similar to that given at the coroner's inquest, no new facts being adduced by the prosecution. The police put in a statement made by the accused in which he complained of a term used towards him by the deceased. The accused struck him and the deceased took off his coat and struck at the accused, who struck back. The deceased fell, striking his head on a form. He never regained consciomnes*. The accused was committed for trial, reserving his defence. Bail was allowed.
