Mr W. E, Spencer, of the Education Department, is on a visit to New Plymouth.

An Ottawa cable says the Prince of Wales visited the Porcupine Mines in Northern Ontario. He descended the workings clad in oilskins. Gold and silver nuggets suitably inscribed were presented.

Mr J. S. Connett, who was appointed representative of this district on the Farmers' Fertiliser Company, has been on a visit to Auckland this week on business connected with the company. Mr Connett returned to New Plymouth yesterdav.

The London correspondent of the Evening Post says that Captain Eliot M. King, 8.A.F., son of Mr Newton King, New Plymouth, got his D.F.C. for continued work in the Eastern Mediterranean, including a good deal of overland bombing and anti-submarine duty.

At a meeting of directors of the South Taranaki Winter Show Company on Thursday evening advantage was taken to say good-bye to Mr J, V. Wyborn, one of the original directors, who is leaving the district and who consequently will retire from the board after next meeting. In a few well-chosen words Mr D. J. Goodwin, the chairman, expressed the regret felt by him per-» sonally and by all his co-directors at Mr Wyborn's retirement. He said'tint Mr Wyborn had from the inception, been a consistent and loyal supporter of the company, and had done good and earnest work to forward the company's interests. He had devoted a lot of time to the show, and in every way had done his very best and been out tot progress and enterprise all the time. His experience in dairying matters had been of great benefit to the company. He wished him and his family the best of. luck, good health, and prosperity in their new home. The other directors also paid a tribute to the work of Mr Wyborn, who suitably acknowledged the compliments paid to him.—Star.
