Oi ■ EGMONT'S GOVERNMENT [ OANDIDATE. At a representative meeting of the supporters of the Reform Party at Eltbam on Wednesday to select a candidate to contest the Egmont seat at the general elections, two names were submitted, viz., those of Messrs 0. Hawken and W. I. Powdrell, but the representatives from the western end of the electorate urged the meeting to add the name of* Mr G. H. Buekeridge, and this request was eventually acceded to. A vote was then taken on the three names and Mr Hawken securea a .wrge majority over the other two combined. He was therefore chosen as the party's representative for Egmont.—Argus. A meeting of Liberals was held at Manaia on Wednesday to discuss candidates for the Egmont seat at the. coming election. It was announced that Mr A. H. Christie, who had been approached, would not be available, and the qualifications of other candidates offering themselves were considered. Eventually it was decided to have another meeting, says the Star.
