NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. . THE MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP. A. Bewley won the men's championship of the New Plymouth Club yesterday by defeating A. S. Hasell in the final over thirty-six holes by 4 *p and 3 to play. The-, first round in the morning ended with Bewley leading by three up. For the first nine holes the play was somewhat even, tlie scores being all square at the turn, Bewley having taken 51 and Hasell 52. Coming home Hasell fell off In Ills play, taking 49 against Bewley's 42 and enUlng '.! down. Neither player was at the top of his form. Going out for the final elghthecn holes after lunch, Hasell played generally more steadily, completing the first nine holes In 48, as against 52 In the morning. During tlils period 1 Hasell brought his opponent's lead down to two up, but before turning for home lie lost this advantage. Though Hasell had twice reduced the margin to two up, trie mrn saw Bewley 3 up, and nino holes to piny. Hasell won the tenth with a 4 against Bewley's 5, but an eight at the next hole removed the advantage, leaving Bewley again 3 up, with seven holes to play. The game then developed Into a keen contest, the next three holes bolng 'halved. The twelfth was halved in 4, ihe thirteenth in 5, and the four'eenth in 4 This left Bewley in the somewhat comfortable position of 3 up and 4 to play, and winning the .next hole with a 0 against Hnsell's 8, he gained a victory by 4 up and 3 to nlay.
