RURAL EDUCATION.

BETTER FACILITIES WANTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Council of Agriculture Conference several speakers stressed the importance of efficient rural education, and a remit was adopted recommending the Department of Agriculture to extend the principle of instruction to farmers bv itinerant instructors. "The Director-General of Agriculture explained that the Department was thoroughly in sympathy with the wishes of the conference in this direction, and had the matter under consideration. The difficulty lay in procuring the right class of instructor to undertake this work. The Department was at present making inquiries for suitable men, both within the Dominion and abroad. The following remit was carried unanimously: That the Department of Education be asked to recommend that a boarding allowance be granted to country students attending high schools and technical schools so tliat country children may thereby be enabled to benefit equally with town children. Delegates pointed out that, on account of the lack of hostel accommodation and the inability of many small fanners to pay board for their children many country children were not able to take full advantage of the opportunities of secondary education.
