MUNICIPAL CRICKET GROUNDS.
(To tlio Editor.) Sir, —It is to be hoped that our city will give duo consideration to the request of our iocal cricketers to provide them with grounds. Their very modest request will probably meet with the approval of the ratepayers. I further suggest that while the Council is on the job. they might provide caretakers for these grounds, and If the law will allow it, throw in a bat or two and a few stumps, because a cricket club can not bo run for nqflitaff. Oi ctfursa!, some scoffers' Willi say that the cricketers should pay for their sport, like tho tennis players, bowlers, and golfers do. Not a bit of it. Why should We strike a bridge rate and a water-rate. Why not a sports' rate? Seeing thafl all other farms of sport are sal/supporting, we could give the cricketers most of the money collected. I appeal to you, gentlemen of the Borough Council, don't turn them down, for goodness sake, don't turn them down. What about the school site, did you say? Oh, hang the kids, they dont count 1 Let's have a game of cricket 1 It's the game, you know I—Yours, modestly. CRICKET BAREACKER. | Oct. 13,1919. |
