The finding in the nautical inquiry into tho standing of tha Northern. Company's steamer Arapawa on Waitara Bar on August 3 was delivered at the Auckland Magistrate's Court on Friday. Tho finding was as follows: (1) The cause of the casualty was that the vessel took the ground while coming out of the Waitara harbor and became unmanageable. The vessel subsequently took the ground on tho north sido of the river and became fast, and then sustained damage; (2) No person is to blame for the casualty; (3) We are of opinion that the probable cause was that the heavy wlm} and sea the preceding night silted up the harbor, and the vessel took ground at a place where the soundings taken by the pilot the preceding day showed sufficient depth for the vessel to proceed to sea in safety. The risk of such accidents is, in our opinion, un« avoidable in bar huTbors. STEAMERS FROM OVERSEAS. ARGYLLSHIRE left Liverpool August 2 for N.Z, via Cape and Australia. Due middle October.
