Captain W. E. Q. Furby, of the 11th laranaki Rifles, has been promoted Major. There is no change in the condition ot President Wilson, says a cable from Washington. Murray, of Otakeho, who was injured in the head on Peace Day, during a game of football, is now out of tho hospital and improving satisfactorily. Br. G. H. Seholefield, who has acted for eleven years as London correspondent for several New Zealand papers, is returning to New Zealand with the view of following his profession in the Dominion. Mr Robert Williamson, one of the old "Die Hards" (the 57th), died at Hamilton last week, aged S3 years. He came to Taranaki with the regiment and took part in many engagements, including those at Sentry Hill and Johnnie's Flat (Tataraimaka). # Mr Henry Holloway, a veteran j'ournalist, died at Hamilton on Saturday at the age of S-2 years. Like Mr Wickham, whose death occurred at Auckland last week, he was engaged in mining in the early days, and afterwards took up journalism, lie came to Taranaki from Of ago, and joined the Militia, taking part in the Maori war. lie was en° gaged for on tho Auckland Bell, of which the late Mr Wickham was one of the founders. Captain H. S. BlaelAurn, Nautical Adviser and Principal Examiner of Masters and Mates for the Marine Department, is retiring at the end of this year on superannuation. Captain Blackburn has held the position of Nautical Adviser since October. 189!). He was a commander in the P. and O. Company for a number of years, and was, at the time of his selection by the late Right Hon. E. J. Seddon, who was on a visit to London, conducting a school of navigation.
