GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S VISIT.
THE OFFICIAL RECEPTION', j BRILLIANT ILLUMINATION'. All preparations for the official reception of the Governor-General and the Countess of Liverpool were completed at an early hour yesterday afternoon. Throughout the day a supply of greenery was brought hi, with which the central portion of the town, and also the precinots of the railway station were profusely decorated. Festoons of red, white, and blue electric lights were hung about the station buildings and across the roadway leading up to the statlcn platform, the lights joining up to a kirge design of a crown, which was hung in position over the entrance to the station grounds. Wi'ile waiting fur the arrival of the train the Citizens' Band, which was on the platform, played several selections, which enlivened the time for the large crowd which had gathered to greet their Excellencies. Promptly to time the train drew into the station, and as the Governor-General stepped on to the platform the National Anthem was played by the band. Lord and Lady Liverpool were received by his Worship the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. •i'i(l Mrs. C- H. Burgess), and members of the Borough Council. Mrs. Burgess presented a beautiful basket bouquet to her Excellency. After introductions had taken place, the Governor-General inspected the Guard of Honor, which was composed of a company of 130 Boys' High School Cadets, under the command of Captain Ryder and Lieut. Diprose. The Governor was accompanied by Captains E. Milton and Sinclair Thompson, as aides-de-camp. Major Cox of the local Group Area office joined the party at Hawera. TT .? lhe party motored to thewhite Hart Hotel where they are staying during their visit to the town. As the party drove from the station hearty cheers were given for Lord and Lady Liverpool. TO-DAY'S ARRANGEMENTS. The arrangements for to-day's ceremonies are complete. The official presentation of addresses takes place at Everybody's Theatre at 10 a.m. The Mayor will present an address to his Excellency on behalf of the citizens of ■New Plymouth, and the Mayoress will piesent an address to the Countess of Liverpool on behalf of the women of New Plymouth. Mrs. Burgess desires that those ladies who have the distinctive badges of the organisations they represent will wear them for the ocThe Ven. Archdeacon Evans will give a brSf farewell address on. behalf of the returned soldiers. The Governor will present to the u idow of the late Arthur H. Ambury, the _Roy.il Albert Medal, which was awarded m recognition of his conspicuous bravery in connection with the tragedy on Mt. Egmont in June of last year. The Governor's party 'will be entertained 'to morning tea on the balcony u? the Theatre by the Mayoress, and en route from the stage to balcony their Excellencies will inspect the pupils of the Girls' High School. The time for leaving the theatre is fixed for 11.30, and the route, which will be lined by school children, will be via Devon, Brougham, and St. Aubya Streets to the railway station. Their Excellencies will take the 11.50 train for Wanganui to pay a farewell visit to that town. They remain there to-night and all dav to-morrow, returning to Wellington for a public function m Hie Empire City on Friday night. The Guard of Honor for to-day's ceremonies will be formed bv memhern of the Returned Soldiers' Association, who afterwards be entertained to mieheon at the Hygienic tea-rooms by t lie Mayoress.
