THE CHURCH AND LABOR.
CLOSER INTIMACY SUGGESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Baptist Union Conference agreed that a paid secretary and treasurer should be appointed to'devote his whole time to the business of the union and missionary society. Greetings were received from the New Zealand Alliance and congratulations on the loyalty of the Church to the temperance cause. A motion was carried to the effect that steps be taken to incorporate the union under the Incorporated Societies Act. The revision of the constitution was held over till next year. Mrs. W. Lambourne (Auckland) was elected president of the' Women's Missionary Union. The evening session was devoted t-j a conference on Christianity and the industrial crisis. The burden of the speeches was that the Church should endeavor to get closer to Labor, that Labor should also come nearer to the Church, that the spirit of caste should be eliminated, and the spirit of Christ instilled into the hearts of men.
