A mass Labor meeting in the Albert Hall adopted a resolution in favor of the nationalisation of mines. It is reported that the Miners' Federation intends to organise a political campaign in favor of nationalisation, instead of calling a strike. The ironfounders' strike has been settled, the- employers agreeing not to re-, duce the present scale of wages before September, 1920, and the union is postponing the application for a further advance until after the next periodical decision of the Arbitration Board. THE FIGHTING FORCES. CUTTING DOWN EXPENDITURE. Received Oct. 13, 9 p.m. London, Oct. 13. The Daily Express states that the Cabinet Retrenchment Committee has decided upon a drastic cutting down of the fighting forces. The Army must not cost more than £75,000.000, the Navy £60,000,000, and the Air Forces £25,00,000.—Au5.-N.Z- Coble Assn. Received Oct. 13, 9.40 p.m. London, Oct. 13. It ia stated that Mr. Lloyd George was instrumental in ordering the reduction of Army expenditure to £75,000,000 thus permitting a permanent •army of IOOyOOO. The Air T'nce is allowed £65,000,000 at present ; on the understanding that it is reduced to £25,000,000 in 1920. The Navy is reI striated to £6o,oo,oooo.—United Service.
