At Mahoe Hall on Friday evening a welcome home social on an unusual scale • was given to a number of returned sol- ; diers and sister. The proceedings commenced with a banquet at 8 p.m., and a spread that did infinite credit to j the caterers was provided. Many toasts were honored in attractive speeches. The j chairman, Mr. T. R. Anderson, proposed' "The Guests," coupled with the name' of Mr. D. L. A. Astbury. Presentations; were made to Sister Cumberworth, Sergt.Major Penfold, Lance-corpl. F. Jones, Rifleman A. Brown, and Privates W. j Smith and T. Morgan. Music for the. dance was played by Mr. and Mrs. Mc- j Carthy (Kaponga). Musical and other items were given by Misses Eunice and Ngaliina Astbury and Cooper, and Messers H. L. Betts, G. Betts, and A. Betts. Messrs Hector Mellow and A. L. Cooper carried out the duties of M'sC. The secretarial duties were ably discharged by Mr. F. J. Cumberworth. St. Andrew's Sunday School pupils and teachers held their annual tea and concert last evening, the attendance being good, despite unfavorable weather conditions. Items were given by Misses Phillips, Jackson, Ivy Arthur, Mary V'andle, Pinhey, and Bess Thompson. Special hymns were sung by the children. At the end of the concert supper was served. Dr. W. P. Gordon delivered an interesting address to the Stratford Senior Cadets last evening on cuts, bruises, broken limbs, and the methods of treatment. Final arrangements have been made by the committee for the Anglican Church Social on Wednesday evening. 4 full orchestra has been engaged, and songs will be given by a few of Stratford's favorite performers, Card tables will be provided for non-dancers, and the ladies are going to put on a real good supper. The promoters of the conversazione in honor of the Hon. J. B. Hine on Monday night ar3 expecting a large attendance. The function has no significance whatever as far as party politics arc concerned, and has been organised for the purpose of doing honor to the people's representative who has won his way to Cabinet rank. The proceedings will not be of a formal character, and the chief aim in framing the programme was to make the evening enjoyable. There will be short speeches, good music, dancing, songs, cards, supper, etc. Have you had them photographed? The kiddies are growing and changing every day. Have them photographed at McAllister's, Stratford, and preserve the charm of the present. It will be a source of enjoyment in the future. In these days of high cost of living it i? a relief tp find something to purchase at the old pre-war prices, just now ladies will find at C. E. James', Broadway, Stratford, a display of Leather Hand Bags at the old value. They are a special purchase, and are selling at one price, 7/8 each.
