THE BROWN SHIELD. WELLINGTON DEFEAT WANGANUI. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 11. The final Brown Shield match this season Was played on Athletic Park this afternoon, between Wellington and Wanganul. ' There was ideal weather and a large crowd of spectators. The game was disappointing, Wellington scoring ah easy victory. Wellington attacked from the start and right through the game It. was a case of forwards versus WangangiU's backs and goal-keeper. Goals were scored bv Porter, Ballard, and McGirr in the first ha'lf. The second half was very one-sided, the local men having all the best of it. Hyder, in goal, saved his aide repeatedly. J. Smith added two goals and Ballard one, to Welllngtoa's score, tli'e match resulting: Wellington 6, Wanganul nil. r SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. The final of the schools championship matches between the Northern and Southern divisions ot Taranakl was played at Inglewood op Saturday, when Stratford met New Plymouth Central, the latter being defeated by 18 to 6. Stratford forwards were much the faster and proved too Impetuous for the New Plymouth backs, thus chiefly accounting for the victory. Stratford Scored six trios and New Plymouth two, the challenge shield being again annexed by Stratford. M.r Frank Julian controlled the game.
