The going was good. Deeley rode British Arch in the Waverley Handicap, He had his own pace, and won easily. Rotaini, considered a certainty in the Grantham Stakes, atoned for two previous defeats, and easily accounted for the opposition. It gave Deeley his second win for the afternoon. Poltrel retained the weight-for-age championship, easily defeating Kennaquhair and Basanof. Results:— GRANTHAM STAKES.—Rossini 8.2 1, Varcotlne 8.7 2, Lord Berogoon 8.7 3. Eight| starters. Shapely made most of the running, tvith Rossini close up. Rossini drew away' at the distance and won easily by four' lengths. Time, 1.37%. ! RANDWICK. PLATE.—Poitrel 1, Kennaquhair 2, Sasanof 3. Three starters. Kennaquhair paced from Poitrel and Sasanof, but in : the straight Poltrel overhauled the leader, and won easily by one and three-quarter lengths. . •Time, 3,28%. - | HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP. Won by a head, with a head between sepOnd and third. Time, 52y 2 sees. CAULPJELD,STAKES. —Nightwatch 9.1 1, Sir Ibex 9.1 ; 2i- Eus&dlus 9.0 3.' Eight starters. Surveyor was sixth. Won easily by half a length. Time, 1.56%. , GUlNEAS.—Artilleryman 8.5 (Harrison) 1, Royal Comedy 8.5 2, Richmond Main 8.5 3. Thirteen, starters. Won by three-quarters of a length, a neck separating second and third. Time, 1.41. TOORAK HANDICAP.—St. Mira 1, Highflown 2, Lucknow 3. Twenty-two starters. Won by a neck, with one and a half lengths between second and third. Time, 1.40%, which equals the record for the course. Stephanoti3 got up in the last half furlong in the Debutante Stakes, and just won. Mr. 1 Kemball's Well Done was sixth. Stephanotis Was recently bought for £2lO. It was trained by a former New Zealander, Sir. D. Price, who also trained the Welter winner, Queen Comedy. Botn are owned by Mr. S. Blackwell. Surveyor, the favorite in the Caulfleld Stakes, led with iMistico to the turn, where it was apparently beaten and did not persevere. Nightwatch was third to last early in the race, and then Tron easily. The latter is a strong fancy for the Caulfleld Cup. Finishing strongly from the turn, Artilleryman won the Caulfleld Guineas confortably in record time. G. Harrison rode the winners, Stephanotis, Nightwatch, Artilleryman, and St. Mira. An enquiry was held into the running of Faramen, third in the Steeplechase. The owner S. O'Neill, rider T. Tagell, and horse were disqualified for five years. THE ENGLISH TURF. THREATENED STRIKE OF STABLE LADS, Received Oct. 12, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 12. ( Kempton Park racecourse reopened after military occupation siuce the summer of 1915. There was an enormous gathering. The Imperial Produce Plate was won by Tetratema (Carslake) 1, Ne'spola 2, Vivaldi 3. Three others ran. The race was won by a length. There is considerable Interest in the autumn handicaps, especially the Caesarwitch. The topic in racing circles is the threatened strike by stable lads at Epsom and Newmarket owing to the Trainers' Federation refusing a conference regarding wages and grievances. The National Union of General Workers to whom the Stable Lads' Union is affiliated, has ordered a strike a week hence unless the trainers modify their attitude.—Aus -N.Z. Cable Assn. DUNEDIN RACES. SECOND DAY RESULTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Nipht. For the second day of the Dunedin spring meeting the weather was fairly fine and the attendance was good. The totallsator put through £28,075 as against £19,647 on the corresponding day last year. The total in* vestments for the meeting were £39,526, as sgainst £36,061 10s.
