DAIRY COMPANIES.

AWATUNA. P j The twenty-fifth annual report and balance-' sheet of the above company says, inter alia: As the present contract with the Imperial Government will expire in June, 1920, and we will then have to face the open market for the disposal of our produce, we would recommend that you give the incoming directors power to install pssteurlsera at both factories, subject, of course, to the result of a report to be made by the delegates who are at present abroad Investigating the by-products of milk. Should this report warrant any further changes to be. made at the factories you will then be called together to consider same. Owing to the protracted winter resulting in a larger decreased spring milk supply, we have shown a decrease In our output for the season. The result of the year's working shows a surplus of £7645 3s 7d, from which your directors recommend a payment of 5 per cent, interest on subscribed capital. This will absorb £360, thus leaving a balance available for distribution of £7235 3s 7d, which will bring the total payment for the season up to Is 10% d over the cheese period, of which Is B%d has already been paid, and a further payment of l%d has been made since the closing of accounts, and the balance of 2V4d will be made as soon as the stocks have been realised. The final payment of %d for last season has also teen made since the closing of the accounts. During the year your directors have purchased Mr. R. Walker's property on the Auroa Road, thus making provision for present and future requirements. We wouid recommend the building of a new office. During the year your late chairman, Mr. S. R. Farquhar, also Messrs. W. H. Watson and H. C. Duckett, resigned from the directorate, and Messrs. W, P. Hughes, W. W. Lonsdale, and L, W. Johns were appointed to fill the vacancies. Mr. J. Flavin has been re-appointed as general manager for the coming season. The rttirlng directors are Messrs. E. A. Collins, F Tlndle, and C. H. Hurst, all of whom are eligible and offer themselves for re-election. The following statistics were attached to the report, those for last season appearing In parentheses: Lbs. milk, 12,299,181 (13,489,311); total lbs. butter-fat 409,997 (512,563); lbs cheese made, 1,205,882 (1,257,852); lbs. creamcry butter made, 2617 (11,974); lbs, whey butter made, 24,376 (33,008); lbs. cheese per lb. butter-fat, 2.57 (2.50); lbs. milk per lib. cheese, 10.16 (10.50); average test for season, 8.82 (3SO).
