FARM AND DAIRY.

WAIWAKAIHO ANNUAL BULL FAIR. Special attention is drawn to advertisement in this issue giving full details of this year's bull fair to be held on October la. This sale has in recent years been quite un event in Taranaki and -is specially looked forward to by breeders. Dairy farmers are now fully alive to the fact that they must have a selected pedigree sire at the head of their herd, in fact the great demand shown by North Island dairymen for North Taranaki dairy heifers has proved the wisdom shown by our farmers in recent years and they are now reaping a rich reward. The yarding at Waiwakailio fair this season contains some exceptionally choicely bred animals of all kinds, the majority of the bulls being North Taranaki bred, but there are special entries on account of Messrs. C. F. Coulter, Blenheim,, and A. Hodgkinson, Takaka, Nelson. Full particulars as to owners, ages of the bulls, and the breeding is fully displayed in catalogues which are now available from any of Mr. King's offices. In the Jersey section the first line to be sold will be on account of Mr. C. F. Goulter (without reserve) and are all ?, and 3-year-olds by that noted bull "Grannie's Knight," "Soumise Jack," and "Hawkcsbury Majestic." The former bull, "Grannie's Knight," is by "K.C.8,/' from the noted cow "Grannie's Girl,' whilst "Soumise Jack" is practically an imported bull, being by "Combination Jack," who tool; w-en first prizes and one second at EHoiish county shows, out of "Soumise Lily'' No. 853 Vol. XI., English Jersey Herd Book. "Hawkesbury Majestic" is by "Soumise Majesty" (imp.) from "Soumise Lily" (imp.). Tlie stock left by "Soumise Majesty" are so well known to Taranaki dairymen that there is no need to describe them here. Mr. 11. B. Lepper will be voiding a nice collection of yearling bulls by "Pe tune's Noble (imp.) and "Kasper"! '''Rasper' is by "KC.8.," from "Sweet Nell," No. 656, and "Petnne's Noble" is well enough known to Taranaki dairymen. Mr. Lepper informs the writer that he is milking some heifers by these two bulls and they are excellent'dairy stock. L r c is also offering a three-year bull "Ger.oa's Marquis," a descendant of "Cam. panile Sultan" (imp.) and the "Doctor" (imp.). Mr. Geo. Mitchell, the Mangorei breeder, is offering young hulls by "Soumise Tom," a son of "Soumise Majesty" (imp.) and "Mountain Views Doctor."'A three-year-old hull; bred by Mr 11. L. tSpence, Carrington rood, 'by "Butter Boy" from "Fair Princess," will lie sola on account of Lieut.-Colonel Weston. JVfr. Noble Hill has entered three yearling bulls by "Butter Lad." who is closely related to "Madam Mayflower," the champion cow in the late 11. B. Curtis herd One of the mothers is "Telephone," who was tlie grand dam of "Omata Queen." who produced 621.4811)3 fat under S.O.R. test. Mr. 11. C. Sampson, of Hillsborough, is sending forward a very handsome son of 'K.C.B." in "Campbell's K.C.," from "l'.ady Campbell," who produced on grass alone 40;5 lbs fnt. This bull is well worthy of inspection The same vendor is also yarding two nice well grown yearlings that are fit to go to any herd. The Taranaki Agricultural Society have a vonng bull entered, this being one donated to their funds. Ilis sire is "Petune's Frisky," who was by "Petnne's Noble." from "Frisky Rose" (440 lbs: fnt as a two-year-old), and his dam is "Martha." a daughter of "Melia Ann's Sultan" from "Briar Lass," who has a S.O.R. test of 3f>o lbs. fat. This young bull, the Society's Committee hope, will make a good sum. Mr. John Hale, of Mangorei, is selling four two-year-olds bv "Soumise Tom," and one by his old favorite "Exile of Oaklands," from first-class cows. Tlie bulls to he sold on account of Mr. A. Hodgkinson are fully described in a catalogue whiel; is now in circulation throughout Taranaki. The milking Shorthorns entered this year appear to be a very high-class lot, in fact it is reported that they will lie j the best, line of this breed as yet sub-' mitted in Taranaki to public 'auction. Messrs. I!. Turnbull and Son. of the "Netherbv Stud Farm," Sentry Hill, ars fending in fourteen young bulls, these being by "Edward's Dairyman," "Xetlierby Prince," "Waikato Prince Padding, ton" and "Netherbv Rufus." The majority of these bulls are out of cows that the vennors have tested and these tests and returns where available will he supplied at the sale. Mr. Chas. Hoskin, Bell Block, has catalogued three young bulls, all by "Camellie's Prince." It will be remembered that this sire was calved at the Auckland quarantine station whilst the mother was under consignment from the Darbalara Estate. New South Wales. Mr. Arthur Nccdham, of Douglas, is railing in a few choice young bulls by "Lord Kitchener," a son of the imported hull "Rose Prince of Darbalara," from the registered cowi"Nancy." who put up under test G4S lbs. fat. These young I bulls should attract considerable at ten" i ion on the day of sale. j The qthcr pedigree Shorthorns advertised are mostly bred bv Messrs. Turnbull and Son or Mr. F.'.T, Cowling, The Friesian entry this year is not a heavy one in the pedigree class, but Mr. A. Ilarold Street has a very nice draft coming forward. In recent vcars this breeder has only kept bulls' from the very best of his cows so fanciers can depend on getting something good nut of this lot. Mr. E. Gibson, of Okato, has entered two yearling bulls bred by .Messrs Clifford Bros. A young bull that should come under notice is a yearling by "Poplarvale Galatea King," from "Nazli Favne Segis." His sire was thought very highly of Uy the late Air. William .Tames and the dam of this yearling, "Nazli Fayne ,Segis 1 ," is a magnificent cow (that was sSld for 120gns). This young bull should turn out to be a top notcher. The Ayrshire entry is made up of oidv three three-year bulls, two of these being the property of Mr. William Hall, the well-known Lepperton breeder. In addition to the above there is n good number of pedigree bulls catalogued ranging in age from yearling to five-year-olds Hint the extended pedigrees of are not available at the moment, but possible the auctioneer' will supply all particulars prior to the sale. There will be sold after the pedigree cattle a very fine line of grade Jersey, Shorthorn and Friesian bulls that go to make up the tail of what must, be a most attractive- catalogue. Taranaki dairymen should attend this sale with even confidence.
