THE MEAT IN STOCK.
IMPROVED SHIPPING POSITION. (By Wire.—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. In the House of Representatives today, Mr. Massey' said he desired to -give the House # some information regarding : the position of the frozen meat industry. On Jnne 30, 1&19, there were in store m the Dominion, 7,934,921 601b carcases. From this number there had to be deducted allocations, making the total 7,554,125. On September 15, the carcases in store amounted to 0,&8,G30, and with the allocations deducted the net remainder was 5,669,125, or a decrease between June and September of 188,500 carcases. There were at the present moment, 22 ships in sight, so that it could be seen-we were getting rid'of our meat in a most satisfactory manner, and in this respect the position was more satisfactory than it had been for years. Replying to the Hon. Heaton Rhodes, Mr, Massey said that each ship Would take on an average about 900,000 carcases, and in reply to Mr. Forbes, he said that the position of the committee which was going Home in connection with the meat itidustry was that a conference of those interested in the freezing companies, co-operative and otherwise, was to be held and their decision is ! being awaited before further steps were taken. It was the intention of the Government to send Dr. Reakes, head of the Agricultural Department, with the committee.
