The Senate adopted Senator New's resolution requesting President Wilson to report with reference to the landing of Americans on the Italian coast. In a bitter debate, Senator Hitchcock charged the Republican Senators with heckling President Wilson and by iilu. blistering in order to delay the adoption of the treaty. Senator Lodge denied that there was any filubustering. President Wilson has nominated Mr. Brand Whitlock as Ambassador to Bel-gium.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. USE OP AMERICAN. TROOPS ALLEGED SECRET CONCLAVE. Received Oct. 1, 8 p.m. Washington, Sept. 30. Mr. Campbell, in the House debate, stated'that the people had a right to know why American troops were landed in Italy. He alleged that he possessed indisputable evidence that at a secret conclave in Europe President Wilson told Mr. Lloyd George and M. Clemcnceau that American forces might be used for any purpose the Peace, Conference thought flt.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Association. PLOTS THAT MISCARRIED. New York, Sept. 30. According to the sworn testimony of Lieutenant von Brincken, formerly military attaches at the German Consulate in San Francisco, and who is now serving a sentence of two, years in a penitentiary for the part he played in the Hindu cases, the following were marked for assassination by agents of the German Government: Lord' Kitchener, Lord Fisher, Sir Cecil Spring-Rice, and Charles Schwab, OVERTHROW OF LAW AND ORDER. Washington, Sept. 29. Senator Borah, speaking in the Senate, said that the lower section of American society was attempting to overthrow law and order by means of lynching?, bomb outrages, ftnd Beditious propaganda, while the upper section was attempting the same thing by means of the League of Nations and the abandonment of Monroism.
