COUNTIES CONFERENCE.

SESSION AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Counties Conference to-nigh.t discussed at length the question of subsidies to hospitals, and a motion was carried that the subsidy should be £ for £ ami that the matter should be placed on a uniform basis.

A motion that the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards Act be amended so as to allow boards to get full subsidies on moneys raised by way of loan for permanent buildings was also carried. A remit urging the Government to be responsible for live years for rates on land acquired for soldiers' settlements was adopted. The following remits were adopted. That the Government be urged to give every assistance to hydro-electric power boards, and also be urged to utilise the water power of the Dominion in making electrical energy available to the public at the earliest possible moment, and that the necessary power for the raising oj preliminary 'expanses for power board elections be granted to local bodies concerned; and that the Government be recruestion to provide for carriage at the lowest possible rate on the railways ot all metal required for roads.
