SUCCESSFUL TANK ATTACK. London, Sept. 30. Messages from Moscow state that the Bolsheviks admit that an attack by tanks in the Dorinsk region compelled them to retire.—Aus. N.Z. Major-General Graves, commanding the Americans in Siberia, demanded an apology from the Cossack commander Kalmikoff for flogging an American soldier. The Cossacks arrested an American officer and soldier in Imam because they did not possess identification papers', i which the Americans contended were unnecessary. The officer escaped. The Americans then surrounded the Cossacks and bloodshed was narrowly avertel. Japanese officers announced that they intended to side with the Cossacks in the event of hostilities.

The Russian Embassy has issued a statement that Admiral Koltchak has ordered the convocation of a Mate assembly of delegates of the small rural districts of Siberia, who will be elected, while representatives of the Russian Zemstvos and other European and Russian public bodies will be invited to participate in the assembly. The Koltchak Government will support one-third of all the delegates. The assembly will have legislative and consultative func-tions.—Aua.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
