WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) September 30. Mr. W. R. Johns, who lias just returned from active service abroad, has bought a section opposite the Bank of ISew Zealand in Queen Street, and intends building a dental parlor of two stories. The building is to be commenced at once, and should be a decided improvement to the street.
A pleasant function took place at the Big Store on Friday evening, when the staff assembled to sav goodbve to Miss £purdle, who is about to be married. Mr Kenme, on behalf of her fellow-workers presented Miss Spurdle with a handsome dinner set, and wished her and her intended soldier husband a happv and prosperous future. '
I regret to hear that Mr. Georoe Fear who Ims filled the position of waterworks overseer and sanitary inspector tor the past three years, is 'leaving the town; hit though sorrv for the loss the town will sustain by his departure, I am glad to hear that he has secured a more remunerative position a? sanitarv inspector at YVrnmumi. where he will have move scope to display hif nmlouhvd latent-, in the line he has chosen. He holds the highest, diplomas i;, sanitary work, which should entitle him to look for preferment when vacancies occur. While in Waitara he always maintained the water supply in first-class order, and the borough will he fortunate if as'good a man can he found to (ill his niece." On the social side lie will lie much missed, as he has alwavs been willing to help in jinythinir tending towards the improvement of the town. Vi'c wish him success in his new position.
