At the lightweight professional boilng championship of New Zealand, in' tho Town Hali last night there were 3000 spectators. M. James (Auckland), holder, defeated P. Cook (Chrlstchurch), after the full number of rcunds, James being declared the winner on points after a very even fight In which he gave a better all-rouud eihibltlon, though his opponent boxed strongly throughout, Thursday evening will see the Tcvlval of boxing In Hawera, which town, prior to the war, was nowd for the good tournaments organised by the Hawera Sports and Pastimes Club. Since the club has been resucltated the membership has rapidly increased, and now is nearly 280 strong. Great interest Is being manifested In the forthcoming tournament, for, bcslies the various bouts arranged, two special matches will also eventuate, and 'lt is safe to predict a packed house. There are six competitors in tho bantam weight (tm-ot from Wanganul and three from Hawera), so this event alone should prove a great attraction.
