Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., I held a sheep and cattlo sale, this being tho first yarding since autumn. Cattle cam© forward in big numbers. Enquiry for all classes proved dull. In-calf hoifers being practically all that were saleable. Tho sheep yarding was small. Mixed yearlings £4 4s, yearlong heifers £4 ss, 2-year-old empty heifers £7 5s to £7 lis, 2 to 3-yenr-old steers £7 10s, bulls £lO 5s to £l3, dairy heifers (forward sorts) £ll to £l3, smaller and later sorts £7 los to £9. Dairy cows £l4 10s, hoggets 255. At Ohura on 18th inst. I held my first spring sheep and cattlo sale. Cattle came forward in good numbers, but the enquiry was dull. Only a few pens of sheep were yarded, all of which sold. Yearling to 15month (mixed) £4 12s to £5, steers £5 3s, heifers £4 6s to £4 15s, smaller do £3 to £3 15s, 2-year-old empty heifers (small) £6 2s fid to £6 10s, 2-year-old steers £7 6s to £B, forward do £lO, cows and calves £7, Incalf heifers (spg.) £lO to £lO 10s. later sorts £7 10s to £8 10s, good hoggets 28s 9d, others 235. At Waiwakalho on 19th inst. I report an average yarding, most of which was quitted at ruling rates. Tho dairy yarding contained some good sorts which realised high prices, a small herd offered on account of Mr R. 11. Balsoni, sonr., meeting with a good sale. Mixed yearlings (small sorts) £2 15s to £3 17s 6d, yearling heifers £3 10s to £4 10s, yearling steers (gootU ,£4 19s, others £3 to £4. 2-year-old empty heifers (Jersey line) £8 12s, others £7 10s to £8 3s, smaller sorts £6 to £6 7s Gd, 2-year-old steers £7 to £7 12s 6d, colored sorts £5 to £5 15s, storo cows £6 to £8 'ss, forward do £9 to £9 15s. Best dairy cows (springing) made from. £ls to £32, poorer conditioned and backward • sorts £lO to £l3 10s, cows (In milk) £l2 to £l7 10s, dairy heifers (spg.) £l2 to £ls 10s, smaller do £8 10s to £lO 103. At Douglas on 22nd Inst. I report a good entry most of which changed hands at recent prices. Yearling hoifers £4 10s to £5 2s 6d, smaller do £3 3s to £3 10s, yearling steres (poor sort 3) £2 19s to £3 lis, 2-year empty heifers £6 His to £7 16s, 3-year-old steers £9 15s, dairy heifers (spg.) £l2 to £l3, backward do £7 10s to £8 10s, heifers (calved) £l2, dairy cows £lO to £ls, hoggets 28s 6d. At Stratford on 23rd inst. J had a fair entry of store cattle, 'mostly consisting of younger sorts. Good cattle sold well, poorer classes proving rather hard of sale. The demand generally was a shade easier compared with late sales. Mixed yearlings £3 to £4 4s Gd, yenrling steers £5, others £2 10s to £3 Cs, hoifers (choice) £C 10s, others £3 19s to £4 17s, 2-jear empty heifers £7 4s to £7 ISs 6d, smaller do £5 12s 6d to £6 lis, 2-year-old steers £7 2s Cd to £7 10s, fat cows £l2 to £l6, forward do £9 5s to £lO, store dd £6 10s to £8 ss, bulls £7 to £9, fat ewes £2, good hoggets 295, others 20s to 21s. In the dairy section cattlo were penned in excess of advertised numbers, the uualfty on the whole being of a rather poor quality, consequently prices were a shade easier. Well-grown heifers (close up) £l2 to £l7 15s, poorer conditioned later sorts £8 10s to £lO 10b, hoifers (calved) £9 10s to £l3 10s, best cows (spg.) £l2 to £l7 (calved) £ll to £l4, At Ngaero dn 24th inst., In conjunction with the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., I conducted a dispersal sale of Mr R. H. Phillips' homestead herd and general farm sundries. The herd was an exceptionally fine one, attracting the attention of dairymen from all parts of Tarariaki. Prices ranged from £2O to £4l, the high-priced cattle being mostly Jersey sorts. The herd averaging £25, others offered realised from £l2 to £3l. Tho heifers were also a very fine line, some choice Jerseys making £lB to £24, Shorthorn and Ilolstelns £l2 103 to *£l9, pedigree Jersey bull 27ghs., sows and litters £ls and £lB, sows in farrow £6, store pl^s ! £2 2s 6d, farm horses £l2 to £lB 10s.
