i STRIKES ORDER OF THE DAY,FOOD SITUATION SERIOUS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 30, 1.20 a.m. London, Sept. 29. The Daily Chronicle's Berliu correspondent says strikes are the order of the day. Nine thousand are striking in the Berlin iron and steel t works. The trouble is extending to the light and power stations. There are also serious strikes amongst the dock workers. At Hamburg, Bremen, and Stettin many agricultural workers are striking. The food situation in Berlin is serious. Butter has disappeared completely. There is no meat to be had. Landed interests threaten to cut off supplies from towns unlesß higher prices are forthcoming. Anger is growing in some towns, where townsfolk threaten to march out and burn farm houses and crops.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. VON DEP. GOLTZ'S INSOLENCE. Received Sept. 29, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, Sept. 27. The Taglische Rundschau states that the chief of the Allied military mission requested General von der Goltz to furnish a list of German soldiers guilty of unlawful acts in Courland. Von der Goltz insolently refused, and threatened to break off intercourse and expel any f Englishman from the territory still occupied by German troops.—Reuter.
