SUPERANNUATED RAILWAYMEN.
WANT PENSIONS INCREASED,
By Telegraph.—PreßS Association*
Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the Superannuated Railwaymen's ABBociation, which was also attended by superannuated members of the police force, t&e following resolution was arrived at: That this meeting is strongly in favor of the amalgamation of different superannuation funds. Seeing that the Government will insist on including all superannuated members and widows and children in the claims made for the war bonus, that this meeting regrets the Government could not see its way to grant our claims, seeing the whole House sympathises with the association's request. As the Prime Minister has proposed to bring our claims before Cabinet, we strongly urge Cabinet to give favorable consideration to the request for a war bonus of 3s a day, at the rate of one-sixtieth for each year of service, and that any increase to members should also be granted to widows and childreu of deceased members) that this meeting regrets that a Minister considers a mandate should be required from the people to grant the paltry nun required to meet the demands of super' animated members, seeing that so much has been done by the Government With* out a mandate from the people. Referring to the statement made th* House that £200,000 would be required if the war bonus were granted to superannuated railwaymen, a speaker stated that £20,000 would be sufficient.
