HIGH SCHOOL BARRACKS.

The Commandant of the High School says that the boys in barracks Are progressing exceedingly well in their work, being very keen and taking a keen interest in it. For five hours each day military work is carried out in accordance with a progressive programme, . covering the four days' duration of the barracks. Each evening a lecture is delivered on some military subject.' Parents of the boys and other mem. bers of the public will be welcome to assemble on the school sports ground this afternoon, *vhen the programme will be ns follows:—2 o'clock, parade; 2.30, march past by cadets; 3, presentation of prizes, including the Weekly Press Challenge Shield presented by the Christchurch Press Company for competition between all cadet companies in the North Island, to be fired for on a miniature range at 25 yards with .22 ammunition; :}.;(((, display by cadets of physical training and exhibition of recreational games ns taught at the present time in the physical training syllabus. The shield will be presented to the team by Lieut. Colonel Robinson, of Palmerston North, who will represent the officer commanding the district. The barracks conclude this evening, and the day boys will be released after dinner.
