NEW PLYMOUTH DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting or the New Plymonth Defence Rifle Club was held hi the Soldiers' Club on Wednesday night. The president, Mr. C. T. Mills, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. The balance-sheet, showing a surphu of .£45 Is 9d was read and adopted. The president read the annual report, which stated that the club had had a, somewhat difficult experience during the season, and it was not until January that shooting had commenced, and in consequence at times there had been much congestion on the range. After referring to the results of the competition, the report expressed satisfaction with the success that had attended t : .\e formation of a junior honorary membership, the success of the movement being greatly helped by Mr. J. Jarvis, Fitzroy, who presented a silver cup as a jhallcnge trophy for junior members, and also with a trophy of lesser value for the boy, other than the junior champion, making the highest aggregate, and who was under 17 at the commencement of the competition. Very little was done in the way of matches with other clubs, Inglewood and Hawera being the only j clubs that were met. Some comment was made on the conditions of the range which was not looked after so well as when in the hands of local trustees. The report concluded with suitable reference to and recognition of the part played by club members in the war. and especially those who had given their lives.
The election of otfieers resulted as follows: Patron, Lieut.-Colonel Weston. D.5.0.; vice-patron, Major Sandford: lion, vice-president, Capts. Hartnell, Mc Diannid, and Ryder, and Lieut. Ward-, president, Mr. A. E. Standish; vice-presi-dent, Mr. J. Ransom; lion, secretary, Mr. E. Armitnge; committee, Messrs. Moore, Hill, Lvsons, Reed. Olliver, Mills, and Christenson; liandicapper, Mr. Olliver; auditor, Mr. W. P. Okey.
It was resolved that a suitable roll of honor of the members of the club who had served overseas be drawn up. The club desired to express its sympathy with Mr. Olliver in his illness, and trusted he would soon be restored to health.
A vote of tlifnks was passed to Mr. Geo. .Tarvis for the assistance he has given the club with the junior member* movement by his donation of valuable trophies.
Votes of thanks to the ladies' committee, the president and outgoing committee, and the press were carried. The opening day was fixed for October 9, the rrenui and Inglewood Clubs to be invited.
A practice match will be held on the firet Saturday in October. During the meeting word was received that the repairs to the range were to be put in hand.
