RAILWAY WORKING ACCOUNT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Th e railway working account from April 1 to August 1G shows that revenue totalled £2,026,443, compared with £1,872,574 last vear. The expenditure was £1,383,394, against £1,226,044. The number of passengers carried increased by 2113, though there was a decrease of 157,624 in the second class passengers using return tickets. The number of live stock carried was 2,839,910, a decrease of 18,059. The goods traffic showed a decrease of 29,286 tons.
GAZETTE NOTICES. Wellington, Last Night. The regulations under tie Police Force Act, 1913, are published. The Gazette notifies that the following local bodies are authorised to raise by loan the sums stated: Hungahunga Drainage Board, £4800; Woolston Borough Council, £300; East Tamaki Road Board, £1600; Whakatane Borough Council, £10,000; Whangamarino Road Board, £700; Wharepapa Road Board, £6OOO, DUTY OFF HAMS AND BACON. Wellington, Last Night. On the recommendation of the Board of Trade the Government has decided to remit the duty on bacon and hams imported from Australia from September 22 to November 1. MURDER CHARGE. Masterton, Yesterday. A charge of murdering C. Carr is being heard against James Reside at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Evidence 1b on the lines of the inquest. COURT FINES FROM WAGES. Wellington, Yesterday. The Labor Department has served attachment orders on the Green Island coal mihe owners, requiring them to deduct from the wages the amount of fines imposed by the Court as a result of the Tecent strike. The fines and costs come to £2 5s per man.
