ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE DANDIES. A BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT. Ever since their first introduction in New Zealand, Mr. Edward Brancombe's clever costume concert and music comedy entertainers have never failed to present a most delightful and wholesome form of entertainment, which make*, patceived with enthusiasm by the audiences which have crowded the'halls in which they have played. In whatever guise they have come they have always ocou instantly successful, witnessing to the fact that they have presented just that form of entertainmen which makes patrons forget for the time all the cares of life and give over, at least for a brief space, to the abandonment of pure enjoyment. The advent of the Dandies last night at the Empire Theatre m their opening performanc- of a four-night season, drew a packed audience, who were enthusiastic in their appreciation of every number presented, from tiie "Cheei Oh" number with which the par-y introduced themselves, until the finale, in which the whole company disportcu themselves in a "Musical Restaurant," to the intense delight of everyone. The fact that The Dandies are under the direction of Mr. John Hopkins, who has become so well and favorably known in connection with such entertainers, is in itself a guarantee of an entertainment worth going far to. hear. From the point of view of musical comedy, the entertainment, gave every satisfaction, appealing with mirthfu 1 "jollity to the humorous in humankind. Messrs. Andrew Pace and W. 11. Kcany filled the bill in this respect for the men, while Miss Lenorc Graham led the men in msjny merry movements. Messrs. Kingsley Chapman (tenor) and Kinn Miller (bass), both old favorites, were deservedly encored for their solo work, in some cases being twice recalled. Miss Christina Andrews (soprano), and Miss Madeline Knight (contralto), were equally successful, both having to come back several times. In duet, trio, quartette, and concerted numbers alike the party were always delightfully refreshing. A pleasing feature of the concert was the 'cello solo work ol Mr. Noel Monkman, who played with much taste and expression. Miss Kitty Gelhor sustained the heavy role of aeeompaniste with much acceptance, and.also delighted the audience with a number of cleverly presented songs and monologues. The Dandies appear again to-night in an entirely new programme.
