MURDER OF DETECTIVE HOEY A PREMEDITATED ACTION. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. IG, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 14. The late Detective Hoey acted as a bodyguard to three Irish Chief Secretaries. It was an open secret that he went in fear of his life, as it was known that the Sinn Feiners had prepared a long list of police victims. Two of those on the list, including Hoey, have thus far been murdered. It is stated that fifteen Sinn Feiners were elected from some districts in the west and south of Ireland to murder the police and other officials in their areas. Hoey was followed throughout the day before an opportunity was found. At least three bullets penetrated liis body. A number of the county councils are angry at the heavy levies made upon thorn for murders and outrages. Thus the Mayo council is required to pay •£ftOQO, and Tipperary £24,000. —Aus.
