EX-GERMAN LINERS.
UNITED STATES TAKES LION'S SHARE. By Telegraph.—Press As«n.—Conyrljht. ' London, Sept. 0. Lloyds' register shows the distribution of "43 ex-German liners of over 10,000 tons as follows: U.S. Shipping Board 18, United States Navy 9, British Shipping Controller 6, Italy 2, Brazil 1, unallotted 9. The fact that the United States Shipping Board has already changed the names of 14 suggests their becoming permanently American. There are some hopes that the liners allocated to the United States navy may return to European control. Nine ships which have been taken over since the armistice have not been allotted.
The liners include the HamburgAmerika Company's Bismark (50,000 tons), and the Norddeutscher Lloyd's Columbus (35,000 tons).
