The offiw in charge of the Department of Internal Affairs wroto pointing oat that this could not legally be done, and suggesting that the funds be handed o"ver to the Tpranaki provincial war fund "Vt to tUe National War Funds Council for administration. Burgess /noved that the Patriotic Societies piace on record their appreciation of the splendid help given by the Pierrots/in the raising of funds' dnring - the war,/thereby enabling a continuous supply o/ comforts for the men on active service. The chairman said that if it had not been for the Pierrots the society would have' fared ill, especially during the past few yearti. 'Help had been giy:n the societies in various ways iiy many people, but the efforts of the society were of an outstanding nature, and it was' only right that their splendid fterTices should- foe placed on record. Mrs. Burgess remarked that the Pierlots. as well as helping the Patriotic . Committee, had given substantial assistance to the Soldiers' Hostel. Messrs Chaney and List paid tributes to the work of the Pierrots, and the notion was carried ■unanimously. At a previous meeting a giant of £5 Was made toward the prize fund of Te "Waikato, Cambridge. This was_ acknowledged bv Lieut. Atkins, who, inter alia, remarked: "Personally I am very grateful to your society, which has been store than good to the men with whom 1 have been attached, more especially when we sailed. Your society sent to transport a lot' of useful goods." J The Toranaki Provincial War Relief .Association wrote re furniture loans, pointing out that applicants .should ' first make application to the Repatriation Committee, which were granting loans on very liberal terms. If unsuccessful, applicant? could apply to the War Relief Association.
