SYRIA.
FRENCH ALARM. REGARDING BRITISH INTENTIONS i By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 4, 1.15 - a.m. London, Sept. 3. The British authorities in Syria are arresting Emir Said, a French protege, in a village under French jurisdiction. This has fanned the flame of smouldering suspicions in Paris that French interests are in danger of being prejudiced in the Anal Syrian settlement. Vehement protests appear in the Trench press, which have been likened to the Fashoda incident. .
No response has been made in the British press, and scarcely any comment. This is apparently due to the conviction that French misgivings will be allayed as soon as the time is ripe to disclose the British proposals regarding Syria's future administration.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
