j FOB AUGUST, 1919. j (Recorded at Pukekura Park Meteorological Station, altitude 160 ft.) Variable, fresh chilly winds with cold niglita and unsteady temperatures were the ruling weather conditions of the month. Rapidly changing cloud displays, typical of variable weather, were prominent throughout the month. Very cold hail storms occurred on the 12th and 16th. Snow fell on Mt. Egmont on eight days, tho heaviest fall on the 30tb. Thunder storms occurred on the 2nd, 3rd (heavy), sth, Oth, and 30th. One degree of frost was registered on the 10th. A brilliant met.eor passed high ovor Mt. Egmont In a south-south-east direction at 7.10 p m, on the 30th. A Blight earthquake was recorded at 10 21 a.m. on the 31st. Fallowing are the records of the Mlf-recording instruments ft* the month Maximum shade temperature, 53dog. on 6th, 69deg. on 30th. Minimum shade temperature, SSdofif. on lfltb, 46deg. on 30th. Maximum wet-bulb, 42deg. on 19th, 45deg. on Ist. Minimum wot-bulk, 40deg. on 24th, 44deg. on 30th. Terrestrial radiator, 32deg. on 10th, 44<feg. on Ist. SoI.'T radiator (sun's heat), 98deg. on 28th, 140deg on 30th. Sunshine recorder, 9min on 27th, lOhr 27min on 24th; the 28th and 29th were sunless days. Rain was registered on 21 days, 3 points on 26th, U points on 16th. Total, 4.086 inches, Wind.—North 2, north-east 1, south 7, southeast '3, south-west 15, calm 1, west 3. There were no gale winds during the month.
