A DESERTER SENTENCED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmeraton North, Sept. 2. Glen Pollock, a conscientious objector who was tried by court-martial for desertion last Wednesday, was found guilty and sentenced to two year 3' hard labor in Wellington gaol.
LOANS FOR ELECTRICAL EXTENSIONS. Te Awamutu, Sept. 2. The Power Board Committee, when seeking provision for a loan for reticulation, was advised that existing legislation doe 3 not allow loans by the State Advances Office for electric installations, as these are not included in the schedule of public works for State loans. In view of the widespread movement for electric development, the board decided to make urgent representations to the Government for the necessary legislative amendment.
