A London cable states that General Allenby is arriving in London on Sept. loth., and that a big welcome awaits him.
Mrs. W. H. Bishop, of Bell Block, left by the Raraka last evening for Auckland to meet her eldest son, Trooper Walter Bishop, who arrives by the troopship Ellenga, from Egypt. A 'Duncdin message states that Mr. C. Cordock, foreman engineer of the Union Company's repair works at Port Chalmers, died yesterday. He came from Auckland in 1914.
Mr. J. Pentecost, who has been inspector on the Xew Plymouth tramways system since its inauguration, has resigned his position.
Mrs. Bridgeman, Vogeltown, has received word that her son, Private F. Bridgeman, is returning by the Adolph Woerraann, due in Wellington on September 28.
Mr. A. Bullians, who since leaving 'New Plymouth 12 .months ago has been assistant master at the Campbell Street School, Pnlmerston North, but who is severing his connection with the school to take up the position of organising teacher in the Hawke's Bay education district, was farewelled on Friday morning. Presentations were made by the hoys and girls of the sixth standard, and Mr. Bullians expressed his thanks for the presentation and regret at leaving the school. The sudden death occurred at Greymouth on Saturday of Mr. Alfred IT. Mellor. The deceased gentleman became ill on Saturday morning and died in the afternoon. The late Mr. Mellor was for some years in the Railway Department in Wellington, and was later transferred to Grcymouth. He is survived by his widow, one son, and three daughtersMrs Len.
