WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Aug. 30., A meeting to consider the question of o welcome 1 home social on a large scale to the returned soldiers was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, when it was decided-to hold the social on September 18th., or if that date is not suitable on the 25th. There were about 20 ladies present, but only two men—Mr. Morgan and Mr. Huse. Another meeting to go more fully into details is to be held.
Mr. D. Hutchinson, who has had a bakery business in Waitara for thirteen years, has sold out to Messrs. Waters' Bios, (returned soldiers), who have had considerable experience in this line. 'The bathing shed on the east beach, which has been menaced by the sea, has teen shifted further away from the beach to a position that is quite out of danger from further encroachment. The Waitara Seaside Improvement and , e T.'f Bathing Society held their monthly meeting las? night. It was decided to !>et some loads of earth to fill in the spot florn which the ladies' shed has been shifted, and to fill in the track where necessary. The matter .of levelling and earthing the ground round the men's shed was held over to see if earth could b-} obtained somewhere close.
At Tikorangi on Thursday the marriage took place of Miss Myra Foreman, the eldest daughter of Mr. .T. Foreman, 'to Mr. Francis Dewhirst, who was formerly attached to the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand. The Rev Gordon Gavin officiated. The bride's dress was erepc-de-chine with a georgette over-dress and empire silk trimming, and she wore a veil with the customary orange blossoms. She carried a choice shower bouquet of spring flowers with streamers. The bridesmaids were Miss Connie Foreman (sister of the bride) and Miss Rene Dewhirst (sister of the bridegroom). Miss Foreman wore crepe-de-ehinc. trimmed with pale green and a black hat. Both carried bouquets of narcissi and sweet peas. Mr. W. Baird was best man. The breakfast took place in a marquee at (he home stead of the bride's parents. The honeymoon is being spent ul Auckland. The young couple were the recipients of a large number of presents.
