A serious situation exists in Montenegro, where the whole country is in a state of revolution. Fighting is proceeding everywhere, and the Serbians are endeavoring to suppress the outbreak by the use of strong measures, but without much success. The Serbians are being reinforced, but their policy tends to influence national feeling, causing bitter hatred against the Serbians.—Aus.-N.Z Cable Assn.

DUNEDIN BEQUESTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The will of the late Mr. Peter Smeaton, formerly of Sargood, Son and Ewen, who died this week, provides for bequests of £IOOO and all net incomo therefrom for ten years for the benefit of New Zealand soldiers engaged in the recent war, £2OO to annuities for the Town Planning Society, £IOOO to the Otago University, payable on the death of a legatee, the income to be.used for a research scholarship in science. An additional provisional bequest to the university will, it is hoped, bring the total sum to £SOOO for scientific research. The sum of £IOOO is to be invested and the income paid to the Dunedin Art Gallery Society for the purchase of oil and water color paintings.

SELLING LIQUOR WITHOUT A LICENSE.

Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court Alfred John Williamson, charged with selling liquor without a license, was fined £25.
