EXPLOITING CHINA.
JAPAN WANTS FIELD TO HERSELF. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrlght. Received Aug. 30, 5.5 p.m. London, Aug. 29. The New York Times' Washington correspondent states that, according to adVfces from Tokio, Yok'o Hamaguchi, president of a prominent Japanese bank, has issued a statement that the financial consortium will not only threaten the independence of China, but will mean her death. It is not advisable that Japan should participate in joint loans at the cost of our right of priority already acquired in China. We must seize the opportunity for promoting the common interests of China and Japan for the sake of the peace of the Far East."
Hamaguchi added: "England wants railroads built in southern China. Japan wants railways in northern China. England lacks funds and is hardly in a position tn exorcise rights of priority in China."—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
